'And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent...' - Matthew 27 vs 51
Greetings to you dearly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Be blessed as you read this article. Amen.
We are talking about the technology of Christ's death, His burial, and His resurrection. It's important you know that in the Old Testament, only the High Priest had access into the Holiest place called the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle, which was the place where the ark of God was kept. Remember, the ark of God, or the ark of the covenant was a symbol of God's presence with Israel.
'Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people...' - Hebrews 9 vs 1 - 7 {KING JAMES VERSION}
But at the death of Christ, something happened:
'And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent...' - Matthew 27 vs 51 {KJV}
THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT IN TWAIN FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM
Remember, only the priests had the right to go beyond the veil of the temple into the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies, every other Jew stayed outside at the outer court. Meaning, every other Jew who wasn't a priest couldn't come beyond the veil of the tabernacle. - Selah
But see this:
'For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.' - Ephesians 2 vs 18 {KJV}
Through Christ, we all have access to the Father by the Holy Spirit. This was what the tearing of the temple veil at the death of Christ birthed, access to God. Now, everyone who believes in Christ can walk right into the Holiest Place, which was a symbol of God's presence. In other words, he that believes in Christ and has received His Spirit dwelling in him, has access to the Father directly. No longer like in the Old Testament, where only the priests and the high priests could go beyond the curtain. The sacrifice of Christ brought an end to that order, and made access to the Father for everyone. Hallelujah! Thank you Lord Jesus for your amazing grace. How sweet it sounds!
'Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh...' - Hebrews 10 vs 19 - 20 {KING JAMES VERSION}
Now, two (2) points derived from these Bible passages which I want to analyze to you:
- We are to enter into the Holiest boldly by the blood of Jesus
- Christ brought about this new order through His flesh (described as "the veil")
We are to enter into the Holiest boldly by the blood of Jesus
Here we are informed to enter into the Holiest boldly by the blood of Jesus. In other words, because the blood of Jesus has washed away our sins and has given us Salvation, let us go to God boldly, let us call Him Father boldly, let us lift up our hands to God boldly. You see, this is because the blood of Jesus has made us accepted by God. Hence, let us go to God boldly, let us approach His throne boldly where mercy and grace flows lavishly. Let us be bold about accessing the Father. Why this boldness? Because of the blood of Jesus which has been shed for us. Hallelujah!
Christ brought about this new order through His flesh (described as "the veil")
Here, we see that the writer refers to the flesh/body of Christ as the veil. This gives us understanding that the veil in the temple was a symbol of the body of the Christ. That means, at the breaking of the body of the Christ, the veil in the temple would be broken/rent/torn, giving men direct access to God the Father; and this is what we saw in our opening Bible passage:
'And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent...' - Matthew 27 vs 51 {KJV}
You see that... So we are told that Christ brought about a new order of fellowship, whereby men are able to have access to God freely and boldly. No more limitation to Divine access. Access to Divinity is no longer an exclusive reserve to the Jewish priesthood, but to all who believe in the Christ, Jesus the Son of God. Hallelujah! So, both the Jew and Gentile, black and white, just anyone can now have access to God directly through Christ Jesus. The temple's veil was rent into two! Hallelujah!
Just as in times past, men had to queue at the Telecommunication office to make phone calls to their loved ones, but now everyone can have a personal telephone. So, by reason of the sacrifice of Christ in His death, the veil of the temple was rent into two {Matthew 27 vs 51} from the top to the bottom, giving us access into the Holy of Holies which only the High Priests could then access. Glory to God.
An internet source says this:
The Significance of the Holy Place
As a repentant sinner entered the tabernacle courtyard and walked forward, he drew closer and closer to the physical presence of God, who manifested himself inside the Holy of Holies in a pillar of cloud and fire.
But in the Old Testament, a believer could only draw so close to God, then he or she had to be represented by a priest or the high priest the rest of the way. God knew that his chosen people were superstitious, barbaric, and easily influenced by their idol worshiping neighbors, so he gave them the Law, judges, prophets, and kings to prepare them for a Savior.
At the perfect moment in time, Jesus Christ, that Saviour, entered the world. When he died for humanity's sins, the veil of the Jerusalem temple was split from top to bottom, showing the end of the separation between God and His people. Our bodies change from holy places to the holy of holies when the Holy Spirit comes to live within each Christian at baptism (Holy Ghost baptism).
We are made worthy for God to dwell within us not by our own sacrifices or good works, like the people who worshiped in the tabernacle, but by the saving death of Jesus. God credits Jesus' righteousness to us through His gift of grace, entitling us to eternal life with Him in heaven.
Hallelujah!
So you see, it's evident that the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ was God's technology to give men a personal relationship with Him. Hallelujah! All praises to the only wise God forever. Amen.
God has blessed you.
