'With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.' - 2 Chronicles 32 vs 8
Greetings to you dearly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I urge you to adopt the Godly character which you will clearly see in this article. God is with you.
Our opening passage is the story of the king Hezekiah encouraging his people when they were attacked by Assyria. Let's see his speech to the people of Judah from the verse 7;
'Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.' - 2 Chronicles 32 vs 7 - 8 {KING JAMES VERSION}
It says that the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah. The Amplified Bible Translation puts it this way;
'With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.'
It says that the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Dearly beloved, after hearing the word of God, learn to rest on it; after receiving the word of God, learn to rely on it. Throw yourself upon the words of God and stay there. Regardless of the military might of the Assyrians which was described in the verse 7 as "multitude", the people still rested themselves upon the words of the king Hezekiah, believing the words of their king Hezekiah that there was more with them than with the king of Assyria. This is trust, this is faith, this is reliance. Absolute reliance. They trusted in his words, and took comfort therein. This is how the believer in Christ should live his/her life. We live trusting that the words of Christ spoken concerning us are true and truth; this is how burdens are destroyed from our hearts, and heaviness melts away from our hearts and minds when we trust and rely on the WORD this way.
When we rest upon the words of Christ, the peace of Christ will rest in our hearts and minds. Irrespective of what you might be faced with, have you found the Word that speaks about your situation? then rest yourself upon the Word. Maybe you are battling with a guilty conscience because of sin, here is a Word to rest upon;
'In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace...' - Ephesians 1 vs 7 {KJV}
It says that in Christ we have the forgiveness of sins. It didn't say that we will have forgiveness of sins when we ask God for it, no. But it says that we have! This is a present tense declaration. We have! You see, in Christ we have the forgiveness of sins. That means that the forgiveness of sins is an inheritance that we came into when we came into Christ, the forgiveness of sins is an inheritance we inherited in Christ when we came to Christ. Hallelujah! So the forgiveness of sins is a possession the Believer possesses in Christ. The forgiveness of sins is a now possession for the believer in Christ. Hallelujah! How do you experience this forgiveness? Just acknowledge it.
'That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.' - Philemon 1 vs 6 {KJV}
The word "communication" as used there means "to share", "to express". So the expression of your faith in Christ is only effective when you acknowledge the good things which are in you in Christ. Maybe you have been battling with guilt in your heart, and you have been carrying with you that burden on your chest for a while now, all you have to do is to acknowledge that the forgiveness of sins is yours in Christ, you have obtained forgiveness of sins in Christ Jesus. You saw the verse, in Christ we have the forgiveness of sins. Now what do you do? Rest on these words, throw yourself permanently upon it, believe it; you can even begin to declare with your mouth, "the forgiveness of sins is mine in Christ" "I have inherited the forgiveness of sins in Christ, therefore this guilt has no legal standing to be in my heart because by the forgiveness of sins which I have received in Christ, all my sins and wrong doings have been wiped out of my record." Hallelujah! Glory to God. You see, by talking that way, you aid your reliance on the Gospel, you aid your resting on the Word, you aid your believing in the Word, you aid your faith in the Gospel, and you will see that your heart begins to heal from that pain, suffering and heaviness you suffered; behold you are healed! behold you are full of Joy! behold Peace has come. Hallelujah!
Dearly beloved in Christ, rest on the Word of God today, rely on the Gospel, throw yourself upon the grace of God, for that is Peace to your heart and mind. Hallelujah! Glory to God.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
