'For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people...' - Hebrews 8 vs 10
'This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them...' - Hebrews 10 vs 16 {KJV}
Greetings dearly beloved of God. Grace be to you and peace from God our father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Our opening Bible passage speaks of the New Testament, and we are informed there that in the New Testament, God has written His laws into the minds of the Believers, and has written them in their hearts. That means, today, God's people are led from within and not by the reading of scrolls of laws and commandments. - Selah
Now, many Believers because of lack of knowledge and understanding of this reality walk contrary to the righteousness of God unawares. Why did I say unawares? That's because a Christian can do something that is not wrong according to the Scriptures, but he is walking contrary to God's will. See this;
'All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.' - 1 Corinthians 6 vs 12 {KJV}
'All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.' - 1 Corinthians 10 vs 23 {KJV}
All things are lawful for me (that something is not a sin), but all things are not expedient (doesn't mean you have to do it). You see... So from this, we understand that something can be not sinful, yet it is not God's will for you to do. An action at a particular time may not be contrary to the Scriptures, but that action will not please God. Now how do we know such situations that are not sinful, yet not necessary? The Bible says God has written His laws in our hearts, and He has put them in our minds. That means, all the will of God, the righteousness of God, God's order and way of doing things are embedded in us, written in our hearts and minds. That means the Believer walks the earth everyday having in Him as a software God's order and will for every situation. It's therefore our responsibility to observe the moving of our hearts, to observe the resistance of our minds when we are about to do something or take an action (which may not be sinful according to the Scriptures); we must pay a very close attention and observation to the moving of our hearts and resistance of our minds, because that's the righteousness/will of God (written in our hearts and mind) demanding of us what should be done. Therefore as obedient children, we yield to the demand of the will of God, and do His bidden. As you live in obedience to the demands of God's righteousness which is written in your heart by the Holy Spirit, you walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in every way. Glory to God. - Think about it
This is being led by the Spirit, this is what it means to be directed by the Holy Spirit. Listen, don't be too knowledgeable to be led by God. Don't argue saying, but this stuff is not a sin, why shouldn't I go ahead and do it... Remember what you've learnt above in this teaching, That something is lawful for you (not sinful), does not mean you have to do it. That something is not a sin does not mean it is necessary to be done. And "the why" is in that same verse. Let's look at it;
'All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.' - 1 Corinthians 10 vs 23 {KJV}
- all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not
ALL THINGS EDIFY NOT
Meaning, anything you do that does not edify, strengthen, improve, correct, inspire another Believer towards godliness, was not worth doing at the first place, it was not necessary to be done. You see... - Think about these things
Dearly beloved, observe the moving of your heart, be very sensitive to when your mind has a quiet opposition to an action you are about to do, that knowing within your soul that you shouldn't do this thing, yet your head has Bible knowledge that that action is not a sin. May God give you understanding.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
